Star Wars Zero Company is a single-player turn-based tactics game developed by Bit Reactor in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, and published by Electronic Arts. Set during the twilight of the Clone Wars, the game follows an unconventional squad operating in the shadows of a conflict that has engulfed the galaxy.
Rather than placing players at the head of a conventional Republic or Separatist army, Star Wars Zero Company focuses on Hawks, a former Republic officer who now commands Zero Company, a collection of soldiers, mercenaries, specialists, droids, and other operatives recruited from across the galaxy. Their mission eventually draws them into a dangerous struggle against the Infinite Coil, a Separatist-aligned organization led by Kundri Fathom that poses a far greater threat than an ordinary military force.
The game combines squad-based tactical combat with character progression, relationship management, strategic decision-making, investigations, and management of Zero Company’s headquarters. Choices made both on and away from the battlefield can affect the squad, available opportunities, relationships between Operators, and how the campaign develops.
Star Wars Zero Company was released on August 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The PC version is available through the EA app, Steam, and Epic Games Store.
The story takes place late in the Clone Wars era, when the Galactic Republic and Separatist Alliance are still locked in a devastating galaxy-wide conflict. However, Zero Company’s assignment takes the squad away from the conventional front lines and into a shadow war against an emerging enemy.
Players take control of Hawks, a former Republic officer who leads Zero Company as an independent outfit of professionals for hire. Hawks and the team are recruited for an operation involving the Infinite Coil, a mysterious Separatist-aligned group whose actions could have catastrophic consequences for the galaxy. The group is led by Kundri Fathom, and Zero Company must ultimately prevent the organization from spreading a deadly plague.
The campaign travels across multiple planets and locations from the wider Star Wars universe while also introducing new characters, environments, technology, and stories. Between missions, the squad returns to The Den, Zero Company’s headquarters on the Ring of Kafrene, where players prepare for upcoming operations and interact with their Operators.
Gameplay in Star Wars Zero Company is built around turn-based tactical combat, squad management, character development, and strategic choices. Players assemble a team of Operators before deploying on missions, with each character bringing different weapons, abilities, specializations, and tactical roles to the battlefield.
Combat takes place in turns, giving players time to consider positioning, targets, abilities, cover, and the actions of individual squad members. Each Operator normally begins their turn with three Action Points, which can be spent on movement, attacks, abilities, and other tactical actions.
Operators can move between positions and take advantage of cover, attack enemies at range or in melee, assist nearby squadmates, and use Overwatch to prepare reaction attacks against enemies acting during the opposing turn. Injured allies can also be rallied back into the fight when circumstances allow.
Some stronger abilities require Advantage Points. Advantage is generated through actions such as successfully damaging enemies and can then be spent on more powerful tactical options. This creates an additional resource to manage alongside Action Points while deciding when to use an Operator’s strongest abilities.
Zero Company is made up of a mixture of authored characters and customizable Operators. Available archetypes span multiple areas of the Star Wars universe, including soldiers, scoundrels, astromech droids, and Force-sensitive characters such as a Jedi.
Hawks can also be customized, allowing players to alter the commander’s appearance, voice, combat specialization, and talents. Custom characters can be created using several Star Wars species, including Human, Twi’lek, Zabrak, Togruta, Devaronian, Neimoidian, Ovissian, and Weequay.
Operators can be further developed by adjusting their loadouts, abilities, talents, equipment, and appearance. This allows squads to be constructed around different tactical approaches rather than forcing every campaign to use exactly the same combination of characters.
Relationships between squad members play an important role in both combat and the wider campaign. Operators who regularly deploy together can develop stronger Bonds, allowing them to work more effectively as a team and unlock additional combat synergies and support benefits.
Choices made during Operations and other events can also strengthen or weaken relationships. As a result, deciding which Operators to deploy together can have consequences beyond the immediate mission, particularly when building a team designed to support one another throughout the campaign.
Outside combat, players return to The Den, Zero Company’s base of operations located on the Ring of Kafrene. The headquarters acts as the strategic center of the campaign, providing access to squad management, conversations, upgrades, equipment, recruitment, and the galaxy map.
The Den’s Holotable presents available Tactical Missions and Operations during each campaign cycle. Players cannot necessarily complete every opportunity before it expires, making mission selection an important strategic decision.
Talking with Operators around The Den can also reveal more about their backgrounds and unlock character-focused content, giving players additional reasons to regularly interact with the squad between deployments.
Tactical Missions send Hawks and selected Operators into playable environments where objectives are completed through exploration and turn-based combat. Mission types include Combat, Sabotage, Rescue, Retrieval, and narrative-focused assignments. Story missions can also contain a short third-person exploration phase before combat begins, allowing players to investigate environments and gather useful resources such as Intel or Advantage.
Operations take place through the galaxy map rather than traditional combat encounters. These activities consume Intel and can provide immediate rewards, reveal additional opportunities, affect character relationships, or present decisions with consequences for the campaign.
Some missions are marked as Critical and advance the main story. Because the campaign progresses through cycles and opportunities can expire, players have to decide where Zero Company’s resources and personnel are most valuable.
Star Wars Zero Company includes an optional permadeath system that can dramatically increase the consequences of combat. Permadeath is enabled by default but can be disabled for players who prefer a less punishing campaign.
When the system is active, an Operator gains an injury whenever they are downed. Accumulating three injuries results in that Operator’s permanent death. Losing experienced characters can therefore change the composition of the squad and force players to adapt their tactics as the campaign continues.
