Best Raven Build in The First Descendant – Modules, Weapons, and Reactor

Raven’s two Transcendent Modules split her into a firearm-focused brawler or a Nightfall summoner. Compare both and find the best weapons, reactor stats, and trigger module before locking in your build.

Best Raven Build in The First Descendant – Modules, Weapons, and Reactor

Raven arrived in The First Descendant on August 20, 2026, with Update 1.4.0, and she is the first Descendant built around shotgun range and the Trace debuff. She is a Non-Attribute Fusion Descendant who spends no MP, recovers Shield on kills, and rewards you for closing distance instead of holding back.

Her two Transcendent Modules pull her in opposite directions. Law of the Back Alley turns her into an all-weapon firearm dealer, while Nightfall converts her into a summoner. Both are worth farming, and the setups share almost nothing.

1. How Raven Works in The First Descendant

Raven

Raven

By default, Raven deals her damage through firearms rather than raw skill numbers, and every skill in her base kit sets up the next shotgun blast. Her power scales with Max Shield instead of HP, so Shield-focused gear raises both survivability and her ceiling.

Queen of Darkness Passive Effects

Queen of Darkness

Queen of Darkness

Her passive is the reason a Shotgun stays in her hands even after a module removes the restriction. It pays out for kills, pellet count, and movement.

  • Shield recovery: Defeating an enemy restores a set amount of Shield.
  • Shotgun bonus: Equipping a Shotgun raises Firearm ATK and Movement Speed.
  • Pellet scaling: Additional Damage scales with the number of shells that connect.
  • Extended Roll: Raven uses a unique roll motion that covers more ground.

Pellet scaling is the line that decides your positioning. Firing a Shotgun from mid-range wastes most of the pellets and cuts that bonus down, so Raven wants to be inside the pack, not near it.

Trace Damage Loop

Shadow Step

Shadow Step

Trace is Raven’s core mechanic and the reason she clears rooms faster than her single-target numbers suggest. Shadow Shot and Shadow Step both apply it, and Shadow Shot turns it into chain damage.

  1. Apply Trace. Hit a group with Shadow Shot, or dash through them with Shadow Step to tag everything you pass.
  2. Shoot a Traced enemy. Land a direct Shotgun attack on any enemy carrying Trace.
  3. Damage spreads. Every Traced enemy near Raven takes damage from that single hit.
  4. Re-tag and repeat. Refresh Trace on new arrivals before the group thins out.

The loop is proximity-gated on both ends. Shadow Shot deals more damage the closer the target is, and the spread only reaches Traced enemies near Raven, so backing off breaks the chain twice over.

Raven Skill Roles in the Trace Loop

Vendetta Skill

Vendetta Skill

Three of her four actives feed the Trace loop directly, and the fourth is a close-range finisher. Reading them as setup tools rather than damage buttons makes her rotation click faster.

  • Shadow Shot: Applies Trace and hits harder at close range. The trigger for all chain damage.
  • Raven Feather: Creates a Blade Feather that inflicts Bleed nearby. Recasting recalls it and pulls Raven to its position.
  • Shadow Step: Applies Trace along a forward dash and grants Veil of Night, which nullifies incoming damage a set number of times and boosts direct Shotgun hits.
  • Vendetta: An area attack usable for up to five streaks, scaling up as you close distance.

Veil of Night is a damage window, not a panic button. Popping Shadow Step to escape throws away the Shotgun damage bonus, so dash into the fight and spend the buff.

2. All Raven Transcendent Modules

Farm Law of the Back Alley first. It keeps Raven’s default identity intact while removing her biggest restriction, so it works with the weapons you already own. Nightfall is stronger in dense mobbing content but demands a full skill-power gear set before it pays off.

Law of the Back Alley Module Effects

Law of the Back Alley

Law of the Back Alley

This module adds the Edict debuff, which weakens the target and scales your gun damage. It also lifts the Shotgun requirement that shapes her base kit.

  • Edict debuff: Weakens the target on application.
  • Firearm scaling: Firearm attacks deal Additional Damage proportional to the Edict stacks on that target.
  • Free ammo window: Using Shadow Step stops round consumption for a short period.
  • Weapon freedom: Every firearm type becomes viable, rather than just Shotguns.

Weapon freedom does not mean the Shotgun becomes a downgrade. Her passive still hands out Firearm ATK and Movement Speed for holding one, so treat the module as permission to experiment rather than an instruction to swap.

Nightfall Module Effects

Nightfall

Nightfall

Nightfall replaces Raven Feather with an attack skill called Raven’s Claw, converting her from a gunplay Descendant into a summoner who fights through persistent damage sources.

  • Skill conversion: Raven Feather becomes the attack skill Raven’s Claw.
  • Automatic damage: Raven’s Claw strikes the strongest enemy in range at regular intervals.
  • Stacking buff: Raven gains a buff proportional to the number of summoned Claws she keeps alive.

Losing Raven Feather also costs her the recall teleport, which is her fastest repositioning tool. Nightfall builds lean on the Grappling Hook and her extended Roll to close gaps instead.

3. Best Raven Firearm Build With Law of the Back Alley

This is the setup to build first because it combines her passive, her Trace loop, and her Shadow Step ammo window. Your stat goal is Firearm ATK and Weak Point Damage on the weapon side, with enough Max Shield and DEF to survive standing in melee range.

Firearm Build Module Priorities

Shadow's Resolve

Shadow’s Resolve

Slot Law of the Back Alley in the Skill Module slot, then build outward from survivability rather than skill power. Raven’s damage comes out of the gun here, so Skill Power modules contribute far less than they do on the Nightfall setup.

  • Shot Focus: The one Descendant module that raises Firearm damage up to 15%. Obtained through Module Combining.
  • Max Shield and DEF: Keep her alive inside the pack and feed her Shield-based scaling.
  • Skill Cooldown: Shortens the gap between Shadow Step ammo windows and Trace refreshes.
  • Mid-Air Maneuvering: Fills the Sub Module slot and turns the Grappling Hook into a free reposition.

How to Play the Edict Loop

Edict stacks are the multiplier, so every rotation should stack the debuff before you commit ammunition to a target.

  1. Open with Shadow Shot. Tag the group with Trace and start applying Edict at close range.
  2. Dash through the pack. Shadow Step spreads Trace, grants Veil of Night, and opens the no-ammo-consumption window.
  3. Empty the magazine. Fire freely during the window, since rounds are not consumed, and Veil of Night boosts direct Shotgun hits.
  4. Recall with Raven Feather. Reposition to the next group and drop Bleed on the way in.
  5. Finish with Vendetta. Spend the five streaks at point-blank range on anything still standing.

4. Best Raven Summoner Build With Nightfall

Raven Nightfall Build

Raven Nightfall Build

Nightfall rebuilds Raven as a skill Descendant, so the gear priorities invert completely. You want Skill Critical Hit Damage, Skill Cooldown, and Skill Effect Range, and the gun becomes a support tool rather than the damage source.

Summoner Build Module Priorities

The build lives or dies on Claw uptime. Cooldown reduction and range extension keep more Claws active at once, which raises the stacking buff and widens the area they cover.

  • Skill Cooldown: The highest-value stat, since it directly controls how many Claws stay summoned.
  • Skill Critical Hit Damage: Her main damage multiplier once Claws are attacking on their own.
  • Skill Effect Range: Expands the area each Claw covers and the reach of her Trace spread.
  • Max Shield: Still required because she remains a close-range Descendant even as a summoner.

How to Play the Raven’s Claw Loop

Claws target the strongest enemy in range on a timer, so your job is to keep summoning and keep the pack inside their radius rather than chasing individual kills.

  1. Stack Claws first. Summon before engaging so the buff is live when the fight starts.
  2. Apply Trace with Shadow Shot. The chain damage still works and now overlaps with Claw ticks.
  3. Hold the center. Stay inside the Claw radius so their automatic strikes stay on target.
  4. Resummon on cooldown. Never let the Claw count drop, because the buff falls with it.

5. Best Weapons for Raven in The First Descendant

Raven wants a Transcendent Weapon in the primary slot, and the right pick changes with the module. Update 1.4.0 caps the Fire Rate increase effect on Transcendent Weapons at 30%, so Quality and the Transcendent Ability matter more than raw fire rate stacking.

Unleashed Instinct: Best Shotgun for Raven

Unleashed Instinct

Unleashed Instinct

Unleashed Instinct is a High-Power Rounds Shotgun, as well as the firearm build’s best shotgun partner because Bloody Hunt turns Reload Time Modifier into Load Capacity and turns Bleed setups into explosions.

  • Excessive Bleeding: Applied to enemies per Shotgun shot that deals damage.
  • Chain explosions: Damaging or defeating an enemy with Excessive Bleeding or Bleed triggers an explosion around it.
  • Hunting Instinct: Applying Excessive Bleeding grants Movement Speed and Additional Shotgun damage.
  • Buff refresh: A nearby enemy with Excessive Bleeding refreshes the Hunting Instinct duration.

The explosion trigger fires on Bleed as well as Excessive Bleeding, and Raven Feather already inflicts Bleed. Throwing the feather into a group before you open fire preloads explosions that a normal Shotgun user cannot set up.

ARMIS and Firearm Alternatives

Armis

Armis

Law of the Back Alley opens the door to every weapon class, and ARMIS is the clearest beneficiary. This Assault Rifle launches Interceptor Missiles on hit, spends Countdown stacks, and fires a Small Warhead Rocket once Countdown empties.

Enemies tagged with Missile Fragment cause your shots to ricochet to nearby targets, which layers area damage on top of the Edict scaling. Take ARMIS when a fight forces you to hold range and the Shotgun pellet bonus is off the table.

ATR-0 Prototype for the Nightfall Build

ATR-0 Prototype

ATR-0 Prototype

Raven is a Non-Attribute Descendant, which makes the ATR-0 Prototype her natural Nightfall pairing. Holding this Tactical Rifle raises Non-Attribute Skill Power Amplification Rate, and using a Non-Attribute skill grants Arche Energy Bullets that the firearm’s hits spend for extra damage.

Treat that extra damage as a flat layer. Additional Damage from this Transcendent effect does not feed other skill effects, so it adds to your total without scaling the Raven’s Claw engine underneath it.

6. Best Reactor and External Components for Raven

Reactors are matched to a Descendant’s attribute and Arche, so Raven needs the Non-Attribute Fusion reactor, and no other option will apply her skill damage correctly.

Reactor drop locations rotate daily and are viewable under Difficulty Level Rewards on the map.

Best Reactor Stats for Raven

Non-Attribute Fusion Reactor

Non-Attribute Fusion Reactor

Sub-stat priority splits along the same line as the modules. Two good sub-stats on one reactor is a long grind, so take a single strong roll and keep farming.

  • Nightfall build: Skill Critical Hit Damage first, Skill Cooldown second.
  • Law of the Back Alley build: Skill Cooldown first, since her damage comes from the weapon.

Best External Components for Raven

Components carry her survivability, and Raven’s scaling makes the priority unusually clean. Nexon built her around shield grinding, so Max Shield outranks Max HP on every set she runs.

  • Max Shield: Her primary scaling stat and the one Perfect Positioning also raises.
  • DEF: Direct mitigation for a Descendant who fights at pellet range.
  • Max HP: A secondary buffer rather than a build target.

7. Best Trigger Module and Inversion Reinforcements for Raven

Update 1.4.0 added two Trigger Modules, and one of them was designed around Raven’s movement. It also added a Raven-specific Inversion Reinforcement that most launch-week builds leave empty.

Perfect Positioning Trigger Module

Perfect Positioning Trigger Module

Perfect Positioning Trigger Module

Perfect Positioning rewards the new Redeployment skill type, a category added in 1.4.0 for skills that instantly move a Descendant without dealing damage. Raven builds toward it constantly through movement alone.

  • Maneuver stacks: Generated by Roll, Grappling Hook, or a Redeployment skill.
  • Activation: Use a Redeployment skill at maximum Maneuver stacks.
  • Active effects: Raises Max Shield and Skill Power and removes bullet consumption for the duration.

Her extended Roll makes stacking Maneuver almost free. The module drops from Trigger Module Loot L in Karel’s Mothership at 22.5% on Normal and 30% on Hard, and it now sits in the reworked Trigger Module Selection Box H alongside 39 others.

Our Axion Plains and Wall Crasher guide covers the alternate route if you would rather farm the guaranteed drops.

Best Inversion Reinforcements for Raven

Photon Decay Reaction

Photon Decay Reaction

Season 4 added Photon Decay Reaction, which exists purely for Raven and feeds both of her builds at once from opposite sides of her kit.

  • Darkness Gathering: Skill hits grant Shell Capacity +5%[x] for 15 seconds, up to 5 stacks.
  • Darkness Spreading: Firearm hits grant Skill Effect Range +1.8%[+] for 15 seconds, up to 5 stacks.
  • Transcendent Weapon Synergy: Firearm hits grant Firearm ATK +1.8%[x] and Reload Time Modifier +2.4%[+], up to 5 stacks.
  • Arche Circulation Tactic: Skill hits cut Skill Cooldown by 24%[+] for 10 seconds on a 25-second cooldown.

Transcendent Weapon Synergy is the sleeper pick for the Unleashed Instinct build. Its Reload Time Modifier bonus converts directly into Load Capacity through Bloody Hunt, so a stat that normally shortens reloads instead turns into a bigger magazine.

8. How to Unlock Raven and Farm Her Transcendent Modules

Raven is craftable rather than store-locked, and the Legion Laboratory Infiltration Operation beats the alternative on every single material. Clearing the S04 EP01 Main Quest also hands out Raven Amorphous Materials, so run the story before you start grinding.

Raven Crafting Materials and Costs

Raven Materials

Raven Materials

Research at the Research Institute needs four components and a gold payment. Hovering over each item and selecting Acquisition Info shows the current drop source in the game.

  • Raven Enhanced Cells, Stabilizer, Spiral Catalyst, and Code: One of each, built from Amorphous Material Pattern: Raven.
  • Complex Filament Seed: Dropped by Commanders in either farm location.
  • 400,000 Gold: The research cost.

Legion Laboratory vs. Isolated Desert Drop Rates

Legion Laboratory wins on rate and doubles as Transcendent Weapon farming, since it sits in the 251 to 400 Quality bracket at a 4.78% completion chance. Isolated Desert on High-Risk is the fallback if the Legion Laboratory is gated behind your progress.

Drop Legion Laboratory Isolated Desert (High-risk)
Amorphous Material Pattern: Raven 30% 20%
Transcendent Module (each) 20% 15%
Complex Filament Seed 4 to 8 per Commander 1 to 3 per Commander
Filament Seed high roll 16 to 18 6 to 7

Both Transcendent Modules roll independently at those rates, so a single clear can hand you either one. Run Legion Laboratory until both drop rather than splitting time between locations. The full farming order for the season sits in our Season 4 Episode 1 complete guide.

9. Common Raven Build Mistakes to Avoid

Testing Raven

Testing Raven

Raven punishes habits carried over from other Descendants, and most launch-week problems trace back to four errors. Fixing them costs nothing and changes her damage output immediately.

  1. Stacking Max HP over Max Shield. Her passive restores Shield on kills, and her scaling follows Shield, so an HP-first component set undercuts the whole build.
  2. Fighting at mid-range. Shadow Shot, Vendetta, and her pellet bonus all scale with proximity. Standing back cuts three damage sources at once.
  3. Running Nightfall with a Shotgun build. Nightfall moves her damage into skills, so pairing it with Firearm ATK gear wastes both halves of the setup.
  4. Using Shadow Step as an escape. Veil of Night boosts direct Shotgun hits and opens the no-ammo window, so dashing away throws the buff on the floor.

Raven spends no MP, so cooldowns are her only limiter. Prioritize Skill Cooldown on both Transcendent Module setups because it controls Trace refreshes, Shadow Step ammo windows, and Raven’s Claw uptime.
