How to Find Knight Leontiel and Noble Broken Mask in Elden Ring Tarnished Edition

Two new NPC invaders arrived with Patch 1.17, and the Leyndell fight is on a timer. Full triggers, routes, and drop lists for Knight Leontiel in Caelid and the Noble Broken Mask before the capital burns.

How to Find Knight Leontiel and Noble Broken Mask in Elden Ring Tarnished Edition

Patch 1.17 added two new NPC invaders to Elden Ring, and one of them runs on a hard deadline. The Leyndell invasion only fires while the city is still Leyndell, Royal Capital, so a late-game save loses a full armor set and a unique weapon for good once the capital changes.

The Caelid invasion has no such deadline. Knight Leontiel waits in the Wailing Dunes once Starscourge Radahn is dead, and she stays available for the rest of the playthrough.

1. Leyndell Invasion Mechanism

Leyndell

Leyndell

The Leyndell invader appears only in Leyndell, Royal Capital. Once the area becomes Leyndell, Ashen Capital, the event stops firing on that character, and the rewards are gone until New Game Plus. Returning players who parked their save in Crumbling Farum Azula or the Mountaintops need to check this before anything else.

The capital changes state after you defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade, which happens after burning the Erdtree. Anything before that point is safe, including the Fire Giant fight and the entire Mountaintops of the Giants stretch.

  • Lockout trigger: Leyndell turns into the Ashen Capital after Maliketh, the Black Blade dies.
  • Rewards lost: Golden Order Flail, Broken Gold Mask, Gold Tattoo (Chest), Gold Tattoo (Arm), Gold Tattoo (Leg).
  • Second chance: New Game Plus, on the same character.
  • Caelid invasion: No deadline. Knight Leontiel remains available after Starscourge Radahn is defeated.
  • Safe checkpoint: Open the map and read the area name. Royal Capital means the invasion is still live.

2. Requirements for Both New NPC Invasions

Golden Order Flail

Golden Order Flail

Both invaders come from the same content bundle, so neither one shows up on a base install. Update the game first, then confirm the pack is attached to your account, because the events fail silently on an outdated build instead of showing an error.

  • Game version: Patch 1.17 or later.
  • Content: The Tarnished Pack on PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam, priced at $4.99 on Steam. Nintendo Switch 2 owners get it inside Tarnished Edition.
  • Save file: Existing characters work. Neither invasion requires a fresh run.
  • Connection: None. These are scripted NPC invasions and trigger offline.
  • Shadow of the Erdtree: Not required for either fight.

Our Tarnished Edition weapons and armor locations guide covers the merchant stock and world pickups from the same update, which is the faster route to the rest of the new gear.

3. Where to Find Knight Leontiel in Caelid

Leontiel as Radahn's Summon

Leontiel as Radahn’s Summon

Knight Leontiel invades in the Wailing Dunes, directly north of the Starscourge Radahn Site of Grace, on the approach to the War-Dead Catacombs. She does not appear until Radahn is dead, since the Site of Grace that anchors the trigger area only spawns after the boss falls.

Before the invasion, Leontiel also appears as a summon for the Radahn fight alongside the other festival NPCs, so you can fight beside her first and take her gear afterward. Summoning her does not block the invasion.

How to Trigger the Knight Leontiel Invasion

  1. Defeat Starscourge Radahn. The invasion stays inactive while the boss is alive.
  2. Fast travel to the Starscourge Radahn Site of Grace. It sits inside the arena in the Wailing Dunes.
  3. Ride north on Torrent. Head toward the ruined stone pillars and the entrance to the War-Dead Catacombs.
  4. Keep riding until the message appears. The invasion notice fires on its own once you cross the trigger area, and Torrent is dismissed the moment it does.
  5. Beat her in a duel. Every drop lands in your inventory on the kill, with no corpse to loot.

How to Beat Knight Leontiel

Knight Leontiel

Knight Leontiel

Leontiel is a fast duelist who punishes overcommitted attack strings. She uses the same Muleta stance you inherit from her, which sidesteps out of your swing and answers with a thrust, so the losing pattern is chasing her with long greatsword combos and eating the counter.

  • Bait the stance: Throw one attack, then reset. She commits to her dodge counter when you swing into her.
  • Punish the recovery: Her follow-up thrust has real recovery frames. That gap is your damage window.
  • Use spacing: Ranged incantations, sorceries, and thrown pots open her guard before she closes distance.
  • Bring a Spirit Ash: Splitting her aggro removes most of the difficulty, and summons are allowed for this invasion.
  • Fight on flat ground: Rolling into the dunes and rubble around the pillars is where players get clipped.

4. Knight Leontiel Rewards and Leontiel’s Greatsword

Leontiel Vanquished

Leontiel Vanquished

Killing Leontiel awards her weapon and full armor set at once, making this one of the fastest complete sets to collect in the pack. The set carries low poise for its look, so pair it with heavier gauntlets or the Bull-Goat’s Talisman if you plan to wear it in a real fight.

  • Leontiel’s Greatsword: Requires 13 Strength and 26 Dexterity.
  • Leontiel’s Hat: Head armor with the affixed ceremonial mask.
  • Leontiel’s Armor: Chest piece.
  • Leontiel’s Leather Gloves: Gauntlets.
  • Leontiel’s Boots: Leg armor.

The greatsword is a Dexterity weapon with Strength as a light secondary, and it deals standard and pierce damage. It upgrades with Somber Smithing Stones and cannot be infused or re-affinitied, so leveling Dexterity is the only way to raise its output.

Muleta Skill

Muleta is the reason to run this weapon over a Claymore or a Banished Knight’s Greatsword. Holding out the red matador cloth starts a stance that dodges around the target with invincibility frames, then converts into an attack you pick with the follow-up input.

  • Light follow-up: A sidestep and swipe that moves you off the attack line and retaliates immediately.
  • Heavy follow-up: Travels further, hits harder, and can be charged.
  • Double heavy: Chains into an upward thrust similar to Giant’s Hunt.
  • Chaining: Inputs continue as long as FP holds, with recovery frames between each one.
  • Strategy: Treat Muleta as your dodge button against slow bosses, since the pierce follow-up qualifies for counterattack damage bonuses and pairs with Rellana’s Cameo.

5. How to Trigger the Noble Broken Mask Invasion in Leyndell

Golden Order Principia

Golden Order Principia

The Leyndell invader is The Noble Broken Mask, named after the Broken Gold Mask he drops. He appears when you cast Law of Regression at the giant Radagon statue below the Erdtree Sanctuary, the same statue that reveals the Radagon and Marika truth during the Goldmask questline.

Law of Regression is the full trigger, so prepare the spell first, then head to the statue for a short duel.

How to Get Law of Regression

Law of Regression

Law of Regression

  1. Defeat the golden shade of Godfrey. This opens the Erdtree Sanctuary Site of Grace as a travel point.
  2. Collect the Golden Order Principia. From the Erdtree Sanctuary Grace, step onto the balcony, climb the giant root, jump to the roof, and enter through the open window. The prayerbook sits on the hanging chair inside.
  3. Hand the prayerbook to Miriel or Brother Corhyn. Miriel stays at the Church of Vows in Liurnia for the entire game, making him the safer option.
  4. Buy Law of Regression for 10,000 runes. It appears in the shop stock once the prayerbook is turned in.
  5. Reach 37 Intelligence. Respec with a Larval Tear at Rennala, or cover the gap with Intelligence-boosting gear such as the Stargazer Heirloom and Marika’s Soreseal.
  6. Memorize the spell at a Site of Grace and equip a Sacred Seal before heading down.

Where to Find the Radagon Statue

Summoning The Noble Broken Mask

Summoning The Noble Broken Mask

From the Erdtree Sanctuary Site of Grace, leave through the door, take the stairs down, and ride the lift to the bottom. Follow the next staircase down, and the enormous Radagon statue stands directly ahead.

Cast position decides the outcome here. Stand on the developer message on the ground in front of the statue, face the statue so it fills the view, and cast from there. Casting from the edge of the room changes the statue without pulling the invader.

How to Beat The Noble Broken Mask

The statue transforms into Marika, the usual revelation text appears, and the invasion notice follows a few seconds later. He fights as a Faith caster with a flail, so he mixes holy damage incantations at range with close-quarters strike combos.

  • Close the gap early: Standing back gives him free casting time and no reason to move.
  • Watch the flail arc: Flail heads track around shields, so rolling beats blocking against his swings.
  • Bring holy resistance: The Haligdrake Talisman and holy-negation armor cut his main damage source.
  • Use the pillars: The statue room has cover that breaks line of sight on his ranged casts.
  • Summon freely: Spirit Ashes work here and pull him out of his casting rhythm.

6. The Noble Broken Mask Rewards and the Golden Order Flail

Fighting Noble Broken Mask

Fighting Noble Broken Mask

This is the richest single payout in the Tarnished Pack. One kill delivers a unique weapon and a complete four-piece set, all of it locked behind the Royal Capital deadline covered above.

  • Golden Order Flail: Faith-scaling flail with a unique weapon skill.
  • Broken Gold Mask: Head armor and the piece the invader is named for.
  • Gold Tattoo (Chest): Chest armor.
  • Gold Tattoo (Arm): Gauntlets.
  • Gold Tattoo (Leg): Leg armor.

The armor pieces share one effect: they raise Faith at the cost of Focus. Lower Focus means weaker resistance to Sleep and Madness, so the set fits a dedicated Faith build in areas without frenzy pressure and works badly in the Frenzied Flame stretches.

The flail deals split physical and holy damage, upgrades with Somber Smithing Stones, and carries a skill built around taking hits rather than avoiding them.

Activating it surrounds your character with the wheel of causality, and a second input releases an attack that grows stronger with the damage absorbed while the skill was active.

7. Best Order to Clear Both Invasions in One Run

Leontiel's Greatsword

Leontiel’s Greatsword

The two fights sit at different points on the critical path, and only the Leyndell one carries a deadline. Slot both into the window before you leave for the Mountaintops of the Giants and neither set can slip away.

  1. Clear Starscourge Radahn and take the Leontiel invasion straight away while you are already in the Wailing Dunes.
  2. Grab the Golden Order Principia the first time you reach the Erdtree Sanctuary in Leyndell.
  3. Buy Law of Regression from Miriel on the same trip you take to turn in any other prayerbooks.
  4. Respec or gear up for 37 Intelligence before you touch the Forge of the Giants.
  5. Cast at the Radagon statue and clear the invasion while the map still reads Royal Capital.
  6. Burn the Erdtree afterward, once the Golden Order Flail and the Gold Tattoo pieces are in your inventory.
