Elden Ring Idus Knight Build – Best Stats, Weapons & Armor

The Idus Knight is best built as a Dexterity-focused Light Greatsword character, rather than splitting levels evenly between Strength and Dexterity just because the starting Idus Sword begins with D scaling in both stats.

The class starts at Rune Level 7 with 15 Dexterity, and Bandai Namco specifically describes Idus Knights as warriors who use lightweight equipment with “ample dexterity.”

The strongest straightforward progression is to keep the Idus Sword, apply a Keen affinity, raise Dexterity toward its major soft cap, and eventually add Wing Stance once you reach Shadow of the Erdtree.

A small Faith investment also fits the class well because Idus Knight already begins with 11 Faith, letting you reach Flame, Grant Me Strength and Golden Vow without completely rebuilding the character.

Its base requirements are only 10 Strength and 15 Dexterity, so the Idus Knight can wield it immediately.

• Apply Keen affinity and focus your levels on Dexterity.
• Keep Impaling Thrust during the early and mid-game for its inexpensive 9 FP piercing attack and ability to pressure guarding enemies.
• Upgrade the weapon normally with Smithing Stones as you progress.
• Once you reach Shadow of the Erdtree, replace Impaling Thrust with Wing Stance for the finished build.

Best Setup: Keen Idus Sword +25 with Wing Stance

Wing Stance – Best Endgame Setup for Idus Sword

Wing Stance turns the Idus Sword into a much stronger endgame weapon without forcing you to replace the class’s signature sword. The Ash of War works on infusable Light Greatswords and can retain Keen affinity once you have the Iron Whetblade.

• Get Ash of War: Wing Stance from the tower chest in Castle Ensis.
• Hold the stance and use a light attack for three rapid slashes.
• Use the heavy attack for a leaping thrust when you have a larger opening.
• Pair it with Rellana’s Cameo later, as holding Wing Stance for one second activates the talisman’s 45% stance-attack bonus.

Milady – Best Light Greatsword Alternative

Milady is the easiest alternative if you like the Idus Sword build but prefer another Light Greatsword. It weighs 6.5, requires 12 Strength and 17 Dexterity, and accepts the same Ashes of War and affinities used by the Idus Sword.

• Use Keen affinity to keep it focused on Dexterity.
• Equip Wing Stance and use essentially the same endgame setup as the Idus Sword.
• Consider switching only if you prefer Milady’s feel or slightly lighter weight; it is not a mandatory upgrade over the Idus Sword.

Leontiel’s Greatsword – Best Heavy Alternative

• Use its unique Muleta skill to evade an incoming attack and immediately transition into a counterattack.
• Choose it over the Idus Sword if you prefer timing-based dodges and heavier counterattacks instead of fast Light Greatsword pressure.

The Idus Knight is designed around relatively lightweight equipment, so the goal is to maintain a Medium Equip Load rather than turning the character into a Heavy Load tank. This matches Bandai Namco’s description of the class as using lightweight attire and weaponry.

Idus Knight also starts with the Silver Grooved Shield. Existing characters can purchase the armor pieces and shield from the Nomadic Merchant near Bellum Church in northern Liurnia.

There is no reason to immediately replace the armor. Keep using it while maintaining Medium Equip Load and focus your early Runes on Vigor, Dexterity, and weapon upgrades.

Rakshasa Set – Best Damage Armor

For a late-game damage-focused setup, switch to the Rakshasa Set from Shadow of the Erdtree.

Each piece provides 2% increased attack power, giving the complete four-piece set an 8% damage increase. The trade-off is reduced defense.

The Rakshasa Set is the better choice when maximizing damage, while the Silver Grooved Set remains the more thematic Idus Knight option.

Rellana’s Cameo

For the finished Wing Stance setup.

Shard of Alexander directly increases Wing Stance skill damage by 15%.

Rellana’s Cameo is especially strong for this build. Holding Wing Stance for at least one second activates its 45% damage bonus on the following stance attack.

Rotten Winged Sword Insignia increases damage by 6%/8%/13% as consecutive hits accumulate, and Wing Stance specifically benefits from successive-attack boosters.

Two-Handed Sword Talisman gives 15% more damage to regular attacks while two-handing the Idus Sword. It does not directly increase Wing Stance damage, which is why Shard of Alexander and Rellana’s Cameo remain more important for the Ash of War itself.

If you prefer fighting with the Silver Grooved Shield, replace Two-Handed Sword Talisman with the Curved Sword Talisman, which increases Guard Counter damage by 20%.

Millicent’s Prosthesis Alternative

Millicent’s Prosthesis gives +5 Dexterity while also increasing attack power through successive hits. Its repeated-hit bonus reaches 11%, and it can stack with Rotten Winged Sword Insignia.

However, Millicent’s Prosthesis and Rotten Winged Sword Insignia normally come from opposing outcomes of Millicent’s questline, so obtaining both generally requires another playthrough or trading.

If you plan to permanently use Millicent’s Prosthesis, you can lower base Dexterity to 75, allowing the talisman’s +5 Dexterity to take you to 80 and moving the spare levels into Mind or Endurance.

6. Best Flask of Wondrous Physick

The best Wondrous Physick for the Idus Knight should reinforce the build’s Dexterity scaling and successive-hit playstyle. Start with Thorny Cracked Tear + Dexterity-knot Crystal Tear for a reliable damage boost, then switch to the more aggressive Bloodsucking Cracked Tear once the build is complete.

The Dexterity-knot Crystal Tear grants +10 Dexterity for three minutes, making it particularly useful before your natural Dexterity becomes very high.

The Thorny Cracked Tear increases attack power as successive attacks accumulate, reaching a maximum 20% bonus, which fits the Idus Sword’s fast attack chains and Wing Stance follow-up.

Later, you can replace the Dexterity-knot Crystal Tear with the Bloodsucking Cracked Tear for maximum damage. It increases all damage by 20% for three minutes, but continuously drains HP while active.

7. How to Play the Idus Knight Build

The Idus Knight works best as an aggressive but mobile Dexterity character. Light Greatswords give you enough speed to maintain pressure while still offering more reach than many lighter melee weapon classes.

1. Cast Golden Vow before difficult encounters.

3. Drink your Wondrous Physick.
4. Two-hand the Keen Idus Sword +25.
5. Use normal attacks to maintain pressure and build successive-hit bonuses.
6. Hold Wing Stance for at least one second when the boss gives you enough time to activate Rellana’s Cameo.
7. Use the light Wing Stance follow-up for rapid consecutive hits or the heavy follow-up for a stronger leaping thrust.
