Star Wars Zero Company Operator Tier List – Best Characters Ranked

Rank every authored operator by fixed talent, specialization pairing, and squad value, then build the four-person team that carries the campaign.

Star Wars Zero Company Operator Tier List – Best Characters Ranked

Star Wars Zero Company hands you seven authored operators and four slots per mission, so half the roster sits at the Den every time you deploy. Every one of them carries a fixed signature talent that no class change can remove, and that talent is what separates a permanent starter from a bench pick.

Tel-Rea Vokoss and Jae Mordant earn a place in almost every squad. Trick spends most of the late campaign at the Den. The ranking below weighs each talent against the resource that actually limits a turn: Action Points.

1. Star Wars Zero Company Operator Tier List

Shockwave II Area of Effect

Shockwave II Area of Effect

Tel-Rea Vokoss and Jae Mordant are the two best operators. Tel-Rea holds specializations nobody else can access, and Jae kills enemies for free every turn without spending Action Points or Advantage.

The table below sets out all seven authored operators, their fixed talent, and the specialization pairing that gets the most from it.

Operator Tier Signature Talent Best Specializations
Tel-Rea Vokoss S Strong with the Force Padawan / Wayseeker
Jae Mordant S Final Shot Scout / Gunslinger
Hawks A Fearless Leader Sharpshooter / Scoundrel
Kabb Uppercut A Uppercut Assault / Soldier
Cly Kullervo B Combat Jump Mandalorian Warrior / Scout
Luco Bronc B Combat Gas Sharpshooter / Scoundrel
Trick C For My Brothers Soldier / Heavy

Each tier describes how reliably an operator earns their slot.

  • S Tier: talents that produce value in every combat, on every map layout.
  • A Tier: strong operators held back by positioning demands or a narrower role.
  • B Tier: capable operators competing against effects the squad already covers.
  • C Tier: a talent that only pays out after something has already gone wrong.

Class changes are unlocked in the Personnel console starting in Cycle 3. They are free, and Focus spent on the class tree is refunded. Focus spent on an authored talent stays put, so the kit you pick on day one is never the kit you are stuck with.

2. How Each Operator Was Ranked

Action Points decide how much a squad accomplishes in a turn, and Advantage is a single shared pool that every operator draws from. Talents that create extra actions or free kills therefore outperform talents that only add stats, and that gap widens on greater difficulties.

  • Action economy: talents that refund AP, grant AP, or kill without spending it.
  • Specialization access: exclusive kits that no recruit at the Den can replicate.
  • Upgrade scaling: how far Focus investment pushes the talent across its ranks.
  • Squad slot cost: what you give up by taking that operator over a custom recruit.

3. Tel-Rea Vokoss: S Tier

Tel-Rea Vokoss

Tel-Rea Vokoss

Tel-Rea is the strongest operator in the game because she is the only route to the Padawan and Wayseeker trees. No recruit at the Den can be assigned to either one, which makes her the single hardest operator to replace.

  • Signature talent: Strong with the Force
  • Primary class: Jedi Padawan
  • Second specialization: Wayseeker
  • Best role: Melee damage and enemy repositioning

Strong with the Force starts every turn with 2 stacks of Harmony, rising to 6 at maximum rank. Harmony feeds her lightsaber attacks and her Deflection at the same time, so she grows more dangerous and harder to kill the longer an encounter runs.

Shockwave II Action

Shockwave II Action

Her displacement is what wins fights. Push and Pull drag enemies out of cover from range, and Lightsaber Throw clears several targets in one activation for 10 Advantage. Pair her with a Scout so Combat Recon pays for that throw on most turns.

Use Push as a setup tool rather than a damage button. Placing an ally on Overwatch and then shoving a target through that cone converts one Force ability into two attacks in the same sequence.

Her risk is real. Tel-Rea works from the most dangerous ground on the map; she cannot move into a standard class, and losing her removes the Jedi trees from that campaign for good.

4. Jae Mordant: S Tier

Jae Mordant

Jae Mordant

Jae carries the best talent in the game. Final Shot fires automatically once per turn after an allied attack and executes any enemy left at 4 Health or less, with upgrades pushing that threshold to 10 Health. It costs no Action Points and no Advantage.

  • Signature talent: Final Shot
  • Starting class: Assault
  • Best specializations: Scout, with Gunslinger second
  • Best role: Advantage generation and cleanup

Respec her to Scout and park her mid-map with vision across as much of the field as possible. Final Shot needs line of sight on the target when it drops into range, and Combat Recon turns a single Action Point into a large Advantage gain that funds everyone else’s abilities.

The once-per-turn limit is the thing to plan around. Spend the execution on the wounded enemy whose next action threatens you most, not simply on the first target that falls into range.

Gunslinger is the secondary to take. Onslaught raises her blaster damage, and a Blaster Pistol with status mods lets her spread debuffs across a group before Final Shot removes the survivor.

5. Hawks: A Tier

Hawks

Hawks

Hawks joins every story mission, so Fearless Leader is active for most of the campaign. It grants +1 Assist Damage to every operator at rank 1 and reaches +4 Assist Damage and +3 Defense at maximum, which quietly lifts the whole squad without costing a turn.

  • Signature talent: Fearless Leader
  • Starting class: Player-selected
  • Best specializations: Sharpshooter, with Scoundrel second
  • Best role: Backline damage and squad support

The reason to rank him this high is Pico-5. Spending Advantage to hand another operator +1 AP turns a stalled turn into a kill, and it is available every turn as long as the pool holds. That button, not the passive, is what keeps Hawks in the core four.

Run him as a Sharpshooter in the back with Zero In active, dumping leftover AP into Overwatch. Scoundrel as a secondary lets Identify Weakness guarantee a critical on Precision Shot and improves the assists Fearless Leader is already boosting.

Medic is the safer campaign build if injuries are stacking up on your roster. Hawks cannot die permanently, but his defeat ends the mission outright, so keep him in cover regardless of the build.

6. Kabb Uppercut: A Tier

Kabb Uppercut

Kabb Uppercut

Kabb is the most aggressive answer to the Action Point problem. Uppercut costs 1 AP, rushes a target, pushes it backward, and refunds every Action Point spent when the blow kills. Base damage climbs from 10 at rank 1 to 18 at rank 6.

  • Signature talent: Uppercut
  • Starting class: Scoundrel
  • Best specializations: Assault, with Soldier second
  • Best role: Frontline finishing and displacement

Respec him to Assault and hunt an Uppercut kill every turn. A clean sequence is Bull Rush into melee range, Uppercut for the kill and the refund, then Sweeping Salvo and blaster fire paid for with the AP you got back.

The knockback earns its keep even when the punch does not kill. Slamming a target into an object adds impact damage, and shoving an exposed enemy through an ally’s Overwatch cone buys a free attack while stripping their cover.

Soldier is the best secondary. The Strength passive raises his melee damage, which pushes more targets into Uppercut kill range, and Brutal Strike replaces the blaster attacks that close out his turn.

7. Cly Kullervo: B Tier

Cly Kullervo

Cly Kullervo

Combat Jump has the highest raw power of any talent here. Cly leaps up to 14 meters at rank 1 and 23 meters at maximum, pushes every enemy near the landing point out of position, and applies Burning at the top rank. The jump triggers neither Overwatch nor Retaliation.

  • Signature talent: Combat Jump
  • Primary class: Mandalorian Warrior
  • Best second specialization: Scout
  • Best role: Flanking, area control, and status pressure

Her Warrior kit backs that mobility with control. ElectroWeb Dart marks a target and ignores Evasion. ElectroWeb Surge then detonates every dart on the field and ignores Defense. Both spend Advantage, which is why Scout belongs in her second slot.

Scout is the second specialization she wants. Her jump, her darts, and her surge all draw from the same shared pool, so a Cly squad without a dedicated Advantage generator starves her abilities and everyone else’s ultimates at once.

She lands in B tier on competition, not on quality. Grenades and Force Push already cover displacement and status damage, so Cly spends a slot on effects the squad can produce another way. Combat Jump does follow her into any build you give her.

8. Luco Bronc: B Tier

Luco Bronc

Luco Bronc

Luco is the most reliable sniper on the roster and the operator to promote when a squad regular becomes unavailable during the campaign. Combat Gas grants stacks of Sharpened Senses, raising his chance to hit and his ranged damage.

  • Signature talent: Combat Gas
  • Starting class: Sharpshooter
  • Best second specialization: Scoundrel
  • Best role: Long-range single-target damage

One stack burns off with every ranged attack, so the talent rewards a few heavy shots over volume fire. That makes Sharpshooter the correct primary, ideally with a Longarm Blaster at 12 base damage and +12 critical damage for 2 AP.

He is also the best Overwatch partner on the roster. Set his cone first, then use a push effect from Kabb, Cly, or Tel-Rea to drive a target across his firing line for damage the enemy never had a chance to avoid.

His placement reflects map dependence rather than weak output. Tight interiors, blocked sightlines, and objectives that force constant movement all reduce what a dedicated marksman contributes.

9. Trick: C Tier

Trick

Trick

For My Brothers revives Trick at the start of the next turn once per combat, at half health at rank 1 and full health at rank 2. Every other talent here rewards good play, while this one only pays out after an operator has already gone down.

  • Signature talent: For My Brothers
  • Starting class: Soldier
  • Best second specialization: Heavy
  • Best role: Durable early-campaign all-rounder

His Soldier kit is genuinely solid. Rocket Strike hits grouped enemies hard, Brutal Strike covers melee, and grenades give him reach, so he carries the opening cycles before stronger options join the company.

Late ranks close the gap. At maximum, Trick revives on the same turn at full health, takes no injury from the first down, and recovers 1 AP, which makes a deliberately reckless Heavy build workable for players who want a frontline that ignores permadeath pressure.

He still ranks last because a custom Soldier recruit reproduces most of what he does. Trick remains a strong pick for high-risk missions and for rosters carrying injuries, and C tier here means situational rather than weak.

10. Best Operator Squad for Every Stage

Team Composition

Team Composition

The strongest four-person squad covers Advantage generation, free executions, displacement, and long-range control at once.

Early Campaign Squad

Kabb, Trick, Jae, and Hawks are your only real choices before the roster fills out. Once class changes unlock, move Kabb to Assault and Jae to Scout, leave Trick on Soldier, and build Hawks as a Sharpshooter.

  1. Open with Combat Recon on Jae to fill the Advantage pool for the turn.
  2. Move Kabb in with Bull Rush and score an Uppercut kill for the AP refund.
  3. Push Trick into melee for Brutal Strike, or spend Advantage on Rocket Strike against clustered enemies.
  4. Hold Hawks in cover on Overwatch, spending Pico-5 when one extra AP finishes a target.

Squad After Tel-Rea Joins

Swap Trick out for Tel-Rea the moment she is available. The turn structure stays identical, but Push replaces Trick’s frontline role by dragging enemies into positions your ranged operators can already hit.

Squad After Second Specializations

The second class slot opens midway through the campaign and turns a good squad into the strongest available. Assign Kabb to Assault and Soldier, Tel-Rea to Padawan and Wayseeker, Jae to Scout and Gunslinger, and Hawks to Sharpshooter and Scoundrel.

Wayseeker is the largest single upgrade. Lightsaber Throw regularly clears three or more enemies at once, and Jae’s Combat Recon generates enough Advantage to fire it nearly every turn.

Two bench swaps are worth keeping. Pull Cly onto vertical or scattered maps where Combat Jump is the difference. Put Luco in Jae’s slot when she is unavailable.

11. How M-3VO, Astromech Droids, and Custom Operators Fit Into the Roster

M-3VO

M-3VO

Custom recruits pick their talent from the universal pool at creation, so none of them match an authored signature. They still fill roles the story cast leaves open, and a well-built recruit outperforms a B-tier companion on the right map.

The field roster stops at seven authored operators. M-3VO stays at the Den with Runa Blask, Bennic Halloren, and Neesh Renark, so the pilot never deploys on a mission. Company capacity starts at seven and expands to 20 through Den upgrades and story progress.

Droid specializations trade damage for support. An Astromech carries utility items and uses Built-In Comlink to hand Action Points to allies, at the cost of a squad slot that produces almost no damage of its own.
