The Division 2‘s Update Y8S2.3 is live, and the Steel Creek Dam is open for business. The Broken Rain Incursion headlines the update, but the same patch adds two new Exotics, rebuilds Dark Zone loot tables, and starts the second phase of PvP balancing.
Two rewards are already on a timer. The Golden Beaver Arm Patch only goes to squads that clear Broken Rain within the first 24 hours, and the Season Pass XP x5 event closes on August 18. Everything below covers the drop sources, the exact rates, and the order in which to tackle them.
1. Broken Rain Incursion Release Time
Broken Rain went live on August 11, 2026, after maintenance that began at 9:30 AM CEST, 3:30 AM EDT, and 12:30 AM PDT. It is a four-player Incursion set at the Steel Creek Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant in rural Pennsylvania, where the Rikers have dug in ahead of Hurricane Morgan.
Your squad has to breach the Rikers’ fortifications, kill the leaders holding the stronghold, and secure the dam before the rising reservoir tears the facility apart. Matchmaking is available if you do not have a full group.
Golden Beaver and Silver Beaver Arm Patch Requirements
Both patches come from clear speed, not from performance inside the run. Complete Broken Rain within the first 24 hours to earn the Golden Beaver and Silver Beaver patches together. Complete it within the first 7 days to earn the Silver Beaver patch on its own.
Maintenance finished ahead of schedule, so the 24-hour clock started the moment the servers came back online, rather than one hour later. One extra hour was then added to the window to account for login queues, giving the launch group a 25-hour run at the Golden Beaver.
Prototype Gear Normalization in Broken Rain
Prototype Gear is allowed in Broken Rain, but every stat on it is normalized. Prototype Augments are disabled, and Prototype stats drop to their minimum values, so a build leaning on Augment bonuses loses that damage the moment you load in.
Paradise Lost, Operation Iron Horse, and Operation Dark Hours already run the same system. Build for the Incursion with standard gear and treat any Prototype piece as a base-stat item.
2. How to Get Steel & Sons ACR in Broken Rain
Steel & Sons ACR drops from the final reward chest after a full Broken Rain clear and from bosses during repeat runs in the same week. This Exotic Rifle is exclusive to the Incursion, so no other activity rolls it.
Steel & Sons ACR Stats and the Confirm & Execute Talent
Confirm & Execute turns steady body shots into a single headshot payout. Body shots apply one stack to a target, up to 3 stacks. Hitting a different enemy wipes all stacks. Your next headshot on the stacked target consumes them all at once.
Destroying an enemy’s weak point adds an additional, amplified damage window, making the rifle strongest against armored Rikers with exposed weak points. Its mod slots are locked to a fixed set of bonuses that favor precision fire:
- Optics: +15% Critical Hit Chance
- Magazine: +10 Rounds
- Underbarrel: +10% Weapon Handling
- Muzzle: +10% Reload Time
Confirm & Execute uses separate values in PvE and PvP, and the PvP version shortens the stack timer as well as cuts the damage.
| Confirm & Execute Effect | PvE Value | PvP Value |
|---|---|---|
| Stack duration | 10s | 6s |
| Damage per stack | +4% | +3% |
| Headshot payout per stack | +11% | +9% |
| Weakpoint amplify | +10% for 5s | +5% for 3s |
Best Way to Farm Steel & Sons ACR
Two drop sources run in parallel every week, and using both beats repeating either one on its own.
- Final reward chest: one roll per character per week, reset on the global weekly reset.
- Repeat clears: unlimited attempts, with an identical drop chance on every run.
- Boss presence: you must be present when the boss dies to be eligible for the drop.
- Clear speed: completion time and individual performance do not change the chance.
Run Broken Rain once on every character you own to bank the weekly chest rolls first, then keep repeating on your main for the boss drops. Alts give you extra chest rolls that a single character cannot access.
3. Broken Rain Event Pass Rewards and End Date
The Broken Rain Event Pass runs from August 11 to August 25 and is built around four JTF-themed outfits. It also introduces Outfit Tokens, a new currency that changes how Store outfits get unlocked.
Free and Premium Track Rewards
The free track covers two outfits, and the premium track adds two more alongside Exotic Caches and your first token.
- Free track: JTF Controller Outfit and JTF Commando Outfit.
- Premium track: JTF Enforcer Outfit, JTF Responder Outfit, 2 Exotic Caches, and 1 Outfit Token.
How Outfit Tokens Work
One Outfit Token unlocks a complete outfit, even if you already own some of its individual pieces. Look for the Outfit Token icon in the Store to see which outfits accept it.
Outfits that support multiple currencies let you choose between an Outfit Token, Premium Credits, or Textiles. Spend your token on a full outfit you own no pieces of, because partial ownership does not reduce the token cost.
4. How to Get Underboss From the Into the Dark Climax Mission
Complete the Into the Dark Climax Mission on Master difficulty for the first time and the Underboss Exotic SMG is a guaranteed reward. The mission opened on August 11 alongside the rest of Y8S2.3.
After that first Master clear, Underboss moves to a chance-based drop on repeat runs, and higher difficulties raise the odds. Farm it on the highest difficulty your build clears comfortably rather than the highest one you can survive.
Underboss Stats and the Gangland Hit Talent
Gangland Hit rewards coordinated groups more than solo play. Shooting an enemy applies a mark, and you hold only one mark at a time, so shooting a second enemy transfers it. Other agents running Underboss stack their own marks on the same target, up to 4 in total.
In PvE, Underboss deals +20% Amplified Damage to marked enemies, and each extra mark from another agent adds 5% on top. The PvP version deals +18% Amplified Damage with 2% per extra mark. Its Optics slot carries +15% Critical Hit Chance.
5. Into the Dark Stretch Goals Start Date and Cache Rewards
The Into the Dark Stretch Goals track opens on August 18 and stays available until the season ends. It unlocks after you reach Tier 100 of the Season Pass, with progression continuing straight into the extra reward tiers.
The track hands out Standard Caches and Prestige Caches. Prestige Caches start appearing at Tier 10 and guarantee rewards that only have a chance to appear in Standard Caches.
Standard and Prestige Cache Drop Rates
Both cache types draw from the same reward pools, with only the payout rates differing between them.
| Reward Category | Standard Cache | Prestige Cache |
|---|---|---|
| Vanity Items | 50% | Guaranteed |
| Rare Named Items | 10% | Guaranteed |
| Seasonal Exotic | 10% | 25% |
| Rare Exotic Item | 0.5% | 2.5% |
Prestige Caches multiply the Rare Exotic rate by five and the Seasonal Exotic rate by 2.5. That makes them the only practical route to Eagle Bearer or Regulus from this track, so push Season Pass tiers hard once Stretch Goals open.
Best Items to Target From Into the Dark Caches
The vanity pool is identical across both cache types and includes the Breathless Outfit (5 pieces), 4 Arm Patches, and 3 Weapon Skins. The named and Exotic pools hold the real chase items.
Named item odds are not flat. Lexington and Stack Broker lead the Standard Cache pool at 10% each, while eight items at the bottom sit at 3.25%. Prestige Caches cut those eight entirely and split the remaining 11 named items evenly at 9.1% each.
Both Exotic pools are flat instead. Seven seasonal Exotics share their slot at 14.2% each, including Chatterbox, Nemesis, and Ridgeway’s Pride. Twelve rare Exotics split their slot at 8.33% each, headed by Eagle Bearer, Regulus, and Ravenous.
6. Season Pass XP Multiplier Event Dates
Two stacked XP events run back-to-back, and both feed Season Pass progression directly. Reaching Tier 100 before August 18 is what opens the Stretch Goals track on day one, so the x5 window is the one to prioritize.
- Season Pass XP x5: August 11 to August 18.
- Season Pass XP x2: August 18 to August 27.
Both multipliers apply to Priority Objectives, the Seasonal Journey, Weekly Projects, Manhunt Scouts, and general world activities. Weekly Scouts stack with the multiplier, and our Manhunt Scout locations guide covers the current target and route.
7. Dark Zone Loot Changes in Y8S2.3
Every drop in the Toxic, Classic, and Balanced Dark Zones now lands at Heroic quality. That single change removes the main reason players skipped Dark Zone farming in favor of open-world Heroic runs.
Classic and Balanced Dark Zones go further. Elites and bosses there carry a 25% chance to drop one additional item from a contaminated loot pool, and that item has to be extracted successfully before you can use it.
Contaminated Loot Pool Drop Chances
When the extra item rolls, the game first selects a category, then rolls evenly within it. A 40% category holding 6 items gives far better odds on any specific piece than a 6% category holding 23.
- High-Value Gear Sets (40%): System Corruption, Yaahl Gear, Foundry Bulwark, Future Initiative, Aegis Gear, Breaking Point.
- High-Value Legacy Weapons (25%): 14 weapons, including The Apartment, Dark Winter, The Virginian, Black Friday, and Harmony.
- High-Value Legacy Gear (15%): 11 pieces, including Deathgrips, Claws Out, Ferocious Calm, Emperor’s Guard, and Matador.
- Named Gear and Weapons (10%): 18 items, including The Setup, White Death, Kingbreaker, Closer, and Everlasting Gaze.
- Exotics (6%): 23 Exotics, including St. Elmo’s Engine, Memento, Coyote’s Mask, Pestilence, and Lady Death.
- High-Value Exotics (4%): Eagle Bearer and The Ravenous only.
The two-item High-Value Exotics pool stands out. A 4% category split between Eagle Bearer and The Ravenous gives each a 2% chance per bonus drop, which makes Classic and Balanced Dark Zone farming one of the strongest targeted routes for those two weapons.
8. Global PvP Balance Phase II Changes
Phase II mainly changes how PvP builds scale. Re-test any loadout that depends on Gear or Brand Set bonuses, Prototype Augments, or adjusted talents before entering Dark Zone or Conflict, because PvP values now differ from PvE values.
Gear and Brand Set bonuses move the strongest and weakest options closer together, which opens room to experiment with setups that were previously outclassed. Several talents were adjusted where their PvP output created oversized advantages.
Prototype Augments now carry their own PvP values, which cut the most extreme damage and survivability stacking without touching PvE performance. That change is preparation work for upcoming PvP content where Prototype Gear will be available.
9. How to Test PvP Builds in the Shooting Range
The Shooting Range now simulates PvP rules, so you can verify a build’s real numbers before entering the Dark Zone or Conflict. Two new control panels handle it, and your stats update the moment you toggle them.
- Enter the Shooting Range at your Base of Operations.
- Equip the PvP loadout you want to test, including talents and any Prototype Augments.
- Switch on Normalization to apply normalized PvP rules for SHD Levels, Expertise, and Prototype Gear.
- Switch on Global PvP Balance to apply PvP values for gear, talents, and Prototype Augments.
- Read the damage numbers on the targets, which now reflect your damage against another player.
- Switch Normalization off to return the display to your regular PvE damage against NPCs.
Test each build with both panels active. Normalization alone hides the talent and Augment adjustments from Phase II, which produces numbers you will not see in an actual match.
10. What to Do First After the Y8S2.3 Update
The Golden Beaver window is the tightest timer, so it sets the order for launch week. Other timers still matter: the x5 XP event ends on August 18, the Event Pass ends on August 25, and weekly chest rolls reset each week.
- Clear Broken Rain with a four-player squad to lock in both the Golden Beaver and Silver Beaver patches.
- Roll the final chest on every character to bank one Steel & Sons ACR chance each per week.
- Run the Climax Mission on Master difficulty for the guaranteed Underboss Exotic SMG.
- Push Season Pass tiers during the x5 XP window before it drops to x2 on August 18.
- Reach Tier 100 so the Stretch Goals track is ready the day it goes live.
- Farm Classic or Balanced Dark Zone for the 25% contaminated drops now that every drop lands at Heroic.
Broken Rain repeats all week for free, so the Arm Patches and the weekly chest rolls are the only items with a deadline.
